Bacalao

<< back

BacalaoBacalao are one of the biggest and most colourful Latin show bands in the country.

The line up consists of the many of the most exciting and talented players in the UK Latin music scene. Much hard work has been put into creating an authentic 'latin/salsa' sound. There are two genuine 'Latinos' in the band, Diego and Rafael who share lead vocals. Both hail from Colombia in South America but the rest are from the UK. Many of the members have, however, journeyed to Cuba, the birthplace of Salsa, and studied and played with some of the best bands and musicians.

The aim of the band is essentially to make people dance, young and old. We also feel like we want to give back something to the culture that gave us the opportunity to make this beautiful music. Our own interpretation of classics might be given a 'western' twist for example by mixing Cha Cha Cha with Ska. A combination that purists might disapprove of but will fill any dancefloor.

The musicians in the band come from a wide range of musical backgrounds, ranging from Klezmer to Jazz, Pop to Punk and Classical to Reggae. This unique combination has resulted in the band presently creating some of the most danceable sounds around.

‘Bacalao performed at The Rainbow Trust’s ‘Spirit of Cuba’ Charity Gala Ball. As the headline act, they stole the show with both their musicianship & amazing stage presence. They interacted masterfully with the audience and dancers and there was hardly a person left seated by the end of their performance. As the Production Manager, I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to inject a real sense of vitality into their event!
