Fumi Okiji's Old Time Jazz Band

Fumi Okiji's Old Time Jazz Band features top musicians Idris Rahman (Soothsayers, Arun Josh), Ben Davis (Basquiat Strings), Stuart Hall and Roy Dodds (Fairground Attraction).

Fumi Okiji loves jazz from every era but in putting together this group she decided to focus on the earlier eras of jazz song from New Orleans, black vaudeville and the songbooks of Billie and Ella for an unapologetically nostalgic nod to old time jazz.

At its heart is Fumi’'s achingly rich, sonorous contralto and this is accompanied by a stellar band of musicians who all bring something essential to the group's sound.

Belleville

 The Hot Club of Belleville creates an atmosphere that conjures up the steamy Swing clubs of the 1920’s and 1930’s and the Prohibition era Speakeasy, through sultry vintage songs, scat vocals, wild instrumental improvisation and that intoxicating Swing rhythm. Thrown into the mix are driving Eastern European Gypsy polkas and waltzes, and contemporary classics played in a ‘Gypsy Swing’ style. 1911 RAGTIME BAND

Dressed in victorian garb this fabulous band plays music from the the swinging 20’s, 30’s and 40’s mostly in a traditional New Orleans style. Including dance numbers like the Charleston, The Cake Walk, The Lambeth Walk, along with lots of comedy songs and music that goes Ooom-Pah Ooom-Pah they are a perfect band for a garden party or reception. Think walks along the prom, cricket on the village green, the launch of the new railway line, or high tea at four o’clock. Being free from the bind of electricity the trio can play anywhere, yet are loud enough for the sound to carry in an outside venue.

Based in London, Earl Okin is one of the world's finest Jazz and Bossa Nova singers, accompanying himself on guitar or piano as is most appropriate. He is also a fine songwriter in the classic mould and last, but not least, is renowned for his 'vocal trumpet' solos...in the tradition of the Mills Bros. He has performed at major venues around the world from The Royal Albert Hall in London to the Apollo Theatre in New York as well as Jazz clubs from Birdland (New York) to Ronnie Scott's (London), L'Archiduc (Brussels) and International jazz festivals everywhere. Last but not least, he has entertained Queen Elizabeth II, The King & Queen of Sweden and many celebrities and performed at corporate events too numerous to detail.
